MCP Server - Powering AI connections
Connect AI assistants and agents — Cursor, Claude Code or any MCP client — to your Orbit OS device through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Ask in plain language and the AI uses 84 tools to read the device, control its hardware interfaces and manage the system. No custom scripts needed.
⚠ Development and testing tool
The MCP endpoint has no authentication: anyone on the same network can call every tool, including reboot, shutdown, OTA install and factory reset. Use it only on trusted networks and stop the app when you're not using it.
What you can do
System
- Device summary and live metrics (CPU, memory, SoC temperature, disk, network, uptime)
- Hardware details: SoC, board, CPU, RAM, serial numbers
- Software details: OS, distro, kernel, runtime and API version
GPIO
- List GPIO lines
- Read and write pin levels
- Set direction (in/out) by name or line number
Hardware interfaces
- I2C — list buses, scan for devices, read/write transfers
- SPI — list devices, full-duplex transfer
- UART — list ports, read, write, transact (write + read)
- PWM — list channels, set duty cycle and frequency, stop
Network
- Wi-Fi — scan, connect/disconnect, client settings (SSID, password, static/DHCP), Access Point mode
- Ethernet — list interfaces, link status, enable/disable, static/DHCP settings
Bluetooth
- Adapter info, enable/disable, rename
- Scan for Classic and BLE devices
- Connect/disconnect, list bonded devices
Apps, power and updates
- List, install (from a file on the device or uploaded from your PC) and remove .orb apps
- Reboot or shut down the device
- Install a system update (OTA) from a file, factory reset
Connect your MCP client
Open the MCP Server page in your device's AppHub: it shows the endpoint and the exact config to copy.
Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json or Settings → MCP):
{
"mcpServers": {
"orbit-os": {
"url": "http://<DEVICE_IP>:9999/mcp"
}
}
}
Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http orbit-os http://<DEVICE_IP>:9999/mcp
Replace <DEVICE_IP> with your device's IP address. The MCP client must run on a computer in the same network as the device.
